Persuasive writing
Persuasive writing is opinion based writing on an issue. The writer takes a position for or against the issue and writes to convince the reader to believe and agree or do something. Writing a persuasive piece can be a difficult task, it is not stating opinion and just giving reasons. The goal is to persuade the reader into believing your opinion by using statistic, facts to prove your point.
It is important to follow persuasive writing structure and format. It should contain an introduction, a body where the argument is developed, and a conclusion. The introduction should a thesis. The opening is a big factor; it catches the readers’ attention. Openings can be unorthodox like opening with a question, anecdote.etc. For the body the writer should then provide evidence to support the opinion offered in the thesis statement in the introduction. Each paragraph should be based on a solid reason to back your thesis statement. To conclude the writer should end by summarizing the most important details of the argument and stating once again what the reader is to believe or do.
To achieve the goal of good persuasive writing, the writer must follow some guidelines like having a firm opinion that you want your reader to accept, begin with a grabber or hook to get the reader's attention, offer evidence to support your opinion and conclude with a restatement of what you want the reader to do or believe.
In order to improve in persuasive writing, the students will benefit from examples and expectations for example a guideline and a rubric. One more persuasive writing assignment will benefit the class and will help the class improve on their writing and marks with the slightest effect on the schedule.
